Regular Semen Analysis
Infertility involves different factors, low sperm number and motility can lead to infertility. Semen analysis measures semen volume, sperm number, motility and morphology to evaluate male fertility. This analysis is performed under World Health Organisation (WHO) guideline and verified by professional embryologist, allowing early diagnosis and treatment. One previous patient had normal number of sperm but poor motility (fig. 1). After taking medication, his sperm motility increased, IUI was arranged and pregnancy was achieved successfully. Another patient had low number of sperm and poor motility (fig. 2), therefore IVF was arranged based on patient’s situation.

Ultrasound Scan
Through ultrasound scan, any abnormalities in uterine cavity, cervix and ovaries can be identified. Uterine polyps, fibroids and other problems will reduce the chance of conceiving. If blockage of Fallopian tube or serious hydrosalpinx is found, achieving natural pregnancy is very difficult.

Ovarian Reserve
It is important to understand your health condition and arrange the most suitable fertility plan. Health of ovaries is very important, there was a 33-year-old lady had her blood hormone level checked and realised her ovaries are the same as a 40 years old. This result is a warning sign, reminding her that she should get pregnant as soon as possible, otherwise her egg quality may drop because of ovarian aging if she decides her fertility plan a few years later. Currently, Anti-Mullerian Hormone (AMH) testing is a more accurate fertility test that evaluates the age of ovaries and pregnancy chances. If the age of the ovaries is older than actual age, this indicates that the ovarian reserve is getting low and the chance of conceiving is reducing. Doctors can arrange suitable fertility plan based on patient’s situation.
