6 myths about increasing your chance of getting pregnant
1) Sperm “storing”
Some people think that we cannot have sex before ovulation as we should store the sperm until ovulation to increase the pregnancy chances. In fact, this is a misunderstanding. The increase of sperm storage time will decrease its quality due to environmental damage. This results in reduced the sperm quality and lower chance of conception.
2) Body temperature
Some may suggest that having sex when femal basal body temperature has risen can increase the chances to conceive. Unfortunately, this is a wrong idea. The rise of basal body temperature indicates ovulation has already occurred. The production of progesterone after ovulation causes the increase in body temperature. Having sex after ovulation will not lead to pregnancy.
3) Certain posture after sex
It is a myth that woman lying down after sex can increase the chances of getting pregnant. In fact, there is no research supporting the relationship between certain posture with pregnancy chances.
4) Taking ovulation drugs
Some women take ovulation drugs to increase the pregnancy chances. It is true that taking ovulation drugs is useful for women who cannot ovulate. However, it may not be helpful for women with ovulation. In addition, many drug may cause thinning of the endometrial lining, and this side effect can be disadvantageous.
5) Supplements can help sperm?
Some men think nutritional supplements can improve sperms. In fact, some supplement do have such effect. However, most supplements that you can get in Pharmacy have never been proved to be effective. You should consider to test your sperm first, find out where is the problem (where the problem is sperm number or quality), then consult your doctor to find out the most effective way to improve your sperm.
6) Women: more exercises can increase the chances of natural pregnancy
Although doctors encourage people to do more exercise, there is no research directly showing that exercising more can increase the chances of getting pregnant. Of course, it is no doubt that for some women who are overweight, losing weight is helpful for them. While in men, it is helpful to exercise more if they want to improve semen quality.
